Groundbreaking Innovations Highlighted at 21st PGDIS Conference in Kuala Lumpur; Winner of the Best Oral Presentation Award and world’s 1st reported TBCD Free Baby via IVF with PGT-M.

The 21st Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis International Society (PGDIS) Conference, held from May 5th to May 8th, 2024, at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya Selangor, marked a significant event in the field of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). This year’s conference was notably held in Malaysia, recognizing the country’s progressive adoption of PGT technology and the pivotal role played by the Alpha IVF Group.
PGDIS conferences are renowned for bringing together a community of scientists, clinicians, counselors, and embryologists who exhibit exceptional innovation in clinical practice. The Alpha IVF Group has been at the forefront of these advancements, with nearly 90% of their IVF patients opting for PGT-A to improve pregnancy success rates. Additionally, many couples have successfully prevented the transmission of genetic diseases to their offspring through PGT-M, thanks to the pioneering efforts of Dato’ Dr. Colin Lee, who first introduced PGT in Malaysia back in 2004
The conference’s inauguration ceremony was graced by Tuanku Ampuan Azizah. The theme “PGT and Beyond” provided a comprehensive platform for disseminating the latest scientific and technological advancements in PGT. The event included invited talks from eminent speakers, selected oral presentations, poster sessions, and educational workshops.
Alpha IVF Group was honored to have Mr. Alan Trounson, a pioneering figure in IVF and a member of our International Scientific Board, as a special invited speaker and opening plenary. Additionally, our Group Managing Director Dato’s Dr Colin Lee also delivered a presentation on AI for Morphology Selection, highlighting our scientific findings in the area of Artificial Intelligence in IVF.
Highlighting the Alpha IVF Group’s contributions, geneticist Mr. Steven Yap presented a top-honored case study which emerged as the champion for best oral presentation award, titled “Experience with the Ion AmpliSeq Polyploidy Panel: A User’s Perspective.” This research, initiated in 2020 by both Alpha IVF – KL and Genesis IVF – Penang, explored innovative methodologies in PGT, particularly biparental testing for 3PN blastocysts,salvaging embryos that eventually result in a normal baby from being discarded.
The Alpha IVF Group also presented a case report entitled “Healthy Live Birth After Preimplantation Genetic Testing for TBCD Gene Mutation” authored by Fong YS, Tan CS, Mohamed S, Lim AYX, Tan SH, Lee CSS from Alpha IVF – Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia, and Advance Genomics, Kota Damansara, Selangor, Malaysia. This report represents the world’s first documented case of such a successful outcome.
